Officers responding to a call of a robbery in progress in the 3200 block of Wallford Drive found a man fleeing the home by way of a back porch. He was armed with a semi-automatic handgun, police said.

An officer repeatedly told the gunman to drop the weapon, but he refused and turned toward the officer, police said. The officer then fired his gun, striking the man several times. A handgun was recovered at the scene. The suspect was treated and released from Bay View Medical Center Monday.
