Three adults, two toddlers injured in two-car crash

A two-vehicle accident in northwestern Baltimore County Friday morning seriously injured five people, including two young children. The Baltimore County Police Department Crash Team responded at 8:18 a.m. to the crash at the intersection of Wards Chapel and Liberty roads, near the Carroll County line at Liberty Reservoir. It took about 20 minutes to free all the victims from a Ford Explorer. Rescue units from Carroll County also responded.

The Explorer driver, traveling east on Liberty Road, had turned left into the path of a westbound dump truck, police said. The impact caused the Explorer to roll over one time.

An adult woman was flown to Johns Hopkins Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The other four victims are in serious condition, police said. A 3-year-old old child was flown to Johns Hopkins Children's Center, where an 18-month-old child was also taken by ambulance. Another woman was taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and a man was taken to Sinai Hospital. The dump truck driver, the only occupant of that vehicle, was not injured.

Police have not released the ages of the adults or the identities of the victims, who were all wearing seat belts. The children were properly secured in child safety seats, police said. The accident remains under investigation.
