Pedestrian struck by light rail, taken to hospital

A man was struck Tuesday afternoon by a light rail train just north of the Patapsco Station, a transportation official said.

Around 4 p.m. a southbound train hit a man who was near the track but outside of the station area, said Terry Owens, a spokesman for Maryland Transit Administration.

The man, who was not carrying identification, was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, he said.

There were a few dozen passengers on board at the time of the incident, he said, and all were transferred to another train.

A bus bridge had been arranged between the Linthicum and Camden Yards stations until the track reopened. Light rail was experiencing a 30 minute delay but service was restored to normal operations by about 8 p.m.

Police are investigating the incident, Owens said.
