Brief snow showers that fell Tuesday afternoon are creating slick roads in Baltimore and its surrounding counties, according the National Weather Service.
Road temperatures at or below freezing in Baltimore County, Harford, Howard and Carroll counties will cause water freeze and cause icy spots, the special weather statement Tuesday evening said.
According to the State Highway Administration, Interstate 695 northeast of Baltimore and Interstate 83 north of the beltway are moving slowly because of the snow flurries.
The sky will continue to be mostly cloudy throughout the day with a high temperature of 32 degrees. Snow accumulations for Tuesday will be less than half an inch.
Northwest winds will hover around 18 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph, according to the NWS.
No additional snow is forecasted for Baltimore through Saturday. High temperatures are predicted to steadily increase from 33 degrees on Wednesday to 55 degrees on Saturday.
As of 7:30 p.m., Tuesday's storm left 3 inches of snow in Frostburg, Allegany County, the largest amount of accumulation from this weather system. Reisterstown, in northwest Baltimore County, has seen a total of 0.2 inches, according to the Weather Service.
A small craft advisory is in effect through 2 a.m. Wednesday in the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay, including Baltimore Harbor, because of high winds.
A winter storm warning was in effect for western Allegany County until 5 p.m. Garrett County was under a winter storm warning until 4 p.m. Heavy snow bands passed through the area that decreased visibility and made roads suddenly slippery.
