Body recovered from Patapsco River in South Baltimore

City fire crews took less than an hour Monday to recover a body, tentatively identified as a man, from the Patapsco River in Fairfield.

City police received a report shortly before 9 a.m. of a body floating in the water near the 400 block of Frankfurst Avenue and alerted the fire department. Crews were on the scene by 9:10 a.m. and immediately donned flotation devices. The victim was not within reach of the shore or an existing pier in the area, near where the body was spotted, officials said.

The Medical Examiner's Office has taken the body to the morgue for an autopsy. Investigators have yet to determine how long the man had been in the water, his identity and whether he fell in from the pier or his body floated from elsewhere, fire officials said.
