23-year-old to be charged in death of man killed in fire at vacant home, Baltimore police say

A 23-year-old man will be charged in connection with the death of a man who was killed after a vacant house he was staying in was set on fire, Baltimore police said Monday.

Daniel Brewer, 59, was found unconscious inside 319 W. 27th Street on June 4 by firefighters who were putting out a blaze. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Police charged Daquein McNeil with arson in connection with the case, saying he set it amid a drug dispute with a person who was not Brewer, who happened to be staying at the vacant house. McNeil is being held on the arson charges and had no attorney listed in court records.

The death of Brewer was later ruled a homicide, and police say they plan to charge McNeil with murder.
