Police say alcohol is believed to have been a factor in an all-terrain-vehicle accident in Carroll County that left a man and a woman critically injured early Sunday morning.
The Carroll County Sheriff's Office said the man and woman were taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center after the accident in Union Bridge.
Police say the man lost control of the ATV and struck a guardrail. Neither he nor his female passenger was wearing a helmet, and they were found unconscious and unresponsive, police said. They were identified by police as James Maticic, 36, of Union Bridge and Debranne Martin, 19, of Taneytown.
