Byrd was making a left turn on the green signal from Lee Airpark Drive when his Volvo station wagon was struck on the driver's side door by a GMC Yukon traveling south on Solomons Island Road, Anne Arundel police said.

The Yukon driver had driven through a red signal, police said. Investigators, who have found no evidence of excessive speed or alcohol, have said driver error may have contributed to the crash.
