Two people died in a fiery crash in Chevy Chase following a police chase early Friday, authorities said.
The vehicle was reported stolen and officers tried to pull it over on Connecticut Avenue around 1:15 a.m. Friday, but the driver sped away, police said. The vehicle struck a tree and burst into flames near the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and Chevy Chase Circle, killing two people in the back seat, according to police.
The driver and a front seat passenger were rescued from the vehicle, police said.
As of 6 a.m. Friday morning, southbound lanes on Connecticut Avenue at Chevy Chase Circle were shut down.
