SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) -- A former Massachusetts man serving prison time in Maryland has been charged in connection with a nearly two-decade old sexual assault on a disabled person.
The Hampden District Attorney announced Wednesday that an arrest warrant has been issued for 43-year-old Vincent Deleonardis charging him with rape and indecent assault and battery.
Prosecutors say Deleonardis was living in Holyoke when he sexually assaulted a 37-year-old man in 1993. The man was a non-verbal paraplegic who used a wheel chair. Deleonardis was the victim's personal care assistant.
The suspect was tied to the assault through DNA evidence.
Authorities say Deleonardis left Massachusetts in 2002 and was recently tracked to a Maryland prison where he is serving time for unrelated theft charges.
