Some local school systems have announced cancellations of weekend activities in anticipation of a storm that's expected to hit the region Friday late afternoon.
All Friday after school and weekend activities are cancelled for Harford County Public Schools. Officials said all school-sponsored activities and those activities scheduled to be held in school facilities or on school property are cancelled for Friday evening, Jan. 23, through Sunday, Jan. 25.
Baltimore County Public Schools is cancelling after school and weekend activities for the same period. Officials said magnet assessments scheduled for this Saturday will be held next Saturday, Jan. 31, instead.
The same is true in Anne Arundel County, where public schools are also cancelling after school and weekend activities. The school system said SAT exams scheduled for Saturday will be rescheduled.
A winter weather advisory is in effect across Central Maryland from 6 p.m. Friday through noon Saturday. A mix of snow, ice and rain is forecast to arrive Friday and bring heavy precipitation, at times, through Saturday morning.
Forecasters expect precipitation to start Friday evening and continue into early Saturday afternoon, but whether it falls as rain, snow or sleet will depend on location and timing.
