: When Rangers center fielder Josh Hamilton rounded the bases in the eighth inning -- becoming the 16th player in major league history to hit four home runs in one game -- those who remained of the announced 11,263 on hand at Camden Yards offered their appreciation with a standing ovation.

: It's a parent's worst nightmare. A father from Forest Hill accidentally backed his lawn mower into his five-year-old daughter, severing her feet. The girl was flown to Johns Hopkins Children's Center where her feet could not be saved, an official said.

: Police first received a report of shots fired in the 1900 block of Edgewater Drive shortly after 8 p.m., said Monica Worrell, a sheriff's spokeswoman. There they located two men suffering from gunshot wounds. A third shot man, 37, arrived shortly afterward at the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center after being transported there by family members, Worrell said.

: Ravens outside linebacker Terrell Suggs, the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, underwent successful surgery on his torn Achilles tendon Tuesday afternoon, but his availability for the 2012 season remains a significant question mark.


: Just after dawn Tuesday, law enforcement officers began yanking hundreds of trucks off the Capital Beltway and funneling them to an inspection lot a long touchdown pass from FedEx Field. The truck-safety dragnet pulled over 420 rigs and resulted in 12 drivers and 87 vehicles being taken off the road.

: Twenty-six years ago this month, four crew members lost their lives when the Pride of Baltimore, a replica of a 19th century sailing vessel, sank in a sudden storm in the Bermuda Triangle. A memorial to the lost, which stands in Rash Field, is set for repairs.

: A series of emails between Gov. Martin O'Malley and Perdue's corporate lawyer shows what an environmental group calls a "cozy relationship" between the two law school classmates as Maryland's chief executive weighs farm pollution regulations of concern to the Salisbury-based poultry producer.
