: A Baltimore County man is facing animal cruelty charges after police say he tossed a Yorkshire terrier about 50 feet from a 23-foot-high balcony Sunday evening.

: Housing officials are investigating whether an alderman found by police in a city-owned complex during a drug raid last week in Annapolis is living there in violation of a lease agreement.

: Councilman Tom Quirk, a Catonsville Democrat, plans to introduce a measure next week to prohibit discrimination against transgender people.

: As many as 100 protesters gathered outside Lila Kara's house, where faded American flags occupy a curbside flower bed, to block the Baltimore City Sheriff's Office from evicting the Bulgarian immigrant -- at least for a day.


: Robert C. Richardson III is accused of murdering his father, Robert C. Richardson Jr., 58, and then dumping his body in a pond behind a relative's house. Police say the son confessed to the crime and told them where to find the body.

: Today, when the two chambers of the General Assembly elect their leaders as the annual session begins, the political odd couple of Thomas V. Mike Miller and Michael E. Busch will become the longest-serving pair of presiding officers in any state in the nation.


: Just before the Ravens face the Houston Texans, they will hear a familiar voice -- other than John Harbaugh's, that is. It will be the smooth, vibrant baritone of Mishael Miller, who has sung the national anthem for Ravens home games since the first one in 1996.
