: In an effort to hold down costs, Comptroller Peter Franchot said Wednesday that he planned to make the process of filing income taxes in Maryland "virtually paperless" by 2014.
: A man from the District of Columbia pleaded guilty Wednesday to conspiring to commit bank fraud as part of a plan to gain about $1.4 million from the Baltimore Housing Authority, prosecutors said.
: The Annapolis panel that oversees elections said Wednesday that it lacks the authority to investigate the residency of Alderman Kenneth A. Kirby, who does not have a permanent home, leaving the matter to the mayor and city council to decide.
: A woman, who police say was in her 30s, died at the scene on Route 1, between Perry Hall and Kingsville. The second person was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center. The head-on collision occurred around 4 p.m.
