: Baltimore City Council President Bernard C. "Jack" Young plans to unveil a plan Monday that he says will prevent fire companies and recreation centers from closing, double funding for youth summer jobs and after-school programs and lessen the cost of planned cuts to health benefits for employees and retirees.

: Tornadoes touched down in six counties -- including one that left a four-mile path of destruction in Carroll County, according to the Weather Service. Two were injured in a separate tornado that tore through Pleasant Hills in Harford County.

: Miss Maryland USA Nana Meriwether, a 27-year-old from Potomac, was the runner-up to Rhode Island's Olivia Culpo at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

: Jones, the team's best player this season and the recipient of a six-year, $85.5 million contract extension a week ago, felt soreness in his wrist during Sunday's 8-4 loss to Tampa Bay. X-rays following the game were negative, but Jones will remain in Tampa Bay overnight for an MRI on Monday.

: A year ago, a rare kidney disorder with no known cure had destroyed Lindsey Duquette's kidneys and seemed to have taken her soul. She entered end-stage renal failure and her parents made the painful decision to have both of Lindsey's kidneys removed.

: The fish kills that have plagued Baltimore's Inner Harbor and nearby creeks over the past two weeks may have eased with the dip in temperatures, but scientists caution that's not the last we've seen of potentially toxic and even deadly algae blooms in area waters.

: A day after his housemate was reported missing in Harford County, Alexander Kinyua went to church with his family and asked the pastor if he could borrow a Bible. "I said, 'Sure, take it, but bring it back,' " Pastor Eric T. Campbell recounted Sunday.
