: The city of Baltimore has failed to collect millions of dollars in potential revenue because of chronic errors and miscalculations in a program offering tax breaks for historic renovations, a Baltimore Sun investigation has found. The Sun documented mistakes in the historic tax credit program that in some cases span nearly a decade. Time and time again, errors originating at the state assessments agency got past city officials charged with overseeing Baltimore's finances, even though the officials were alerted to similar problems in 1999.

: A seven-alarm fire swept through about 40 acres of timber farmland on the southern end of Kent Island on Sunday, burning for nearly 12 hours before firefighters from across Maryland and Delaware contained the flames, according to a Queen Anne's County fire spokesman.

: A 7-year-old Waldorf girl was killed and three adults were injured in a three-car, alcohol-involved collision Sunday in Charles County, according to Maryland State Police.

: Matt Wieters' two-run home run in the eighth inning -- his first homer in three weeks -- lifted the Orioles to a 2-1 win (and series victory) over the Nationals on Sunday at Camden Yards.

: Christopher Brown's loved ones billed the service as a "celebration of life." But the Rev. Jamal Bryant of Empowerment Temple in Baltimore encouraged them to shun "political correctness" and find a wake-up call in 17-year-old Brown's death, which followed a physical confrontation with an off-duty Baltimore County police officer on June 13.

: On Sunday, Christ the King Church -- Anglican -- became Christ the King Catholic Church. The Towson congregation of about 140 is one of the first groups in the United States to join a new "ordinariate" established for those who want to be Catholic but hold on to Anglican traditions. The largest Anglican church in the country to do so, it follows in the footsteps of Mount Calvary Church in Baltimore and St. Luke's Parish in Bladensburg.

: Rep. Roscoe G. Bartlett, the Western Maryland Republican who faces a re-election battle this fall, has repeatedly filed incomplete and inaccurate campaign finance reports, and was fined $5,000 this year by the Federal Election Commission, records show. A review of FEC data by the Baltimore Sun found that Bartlett has received 25 letters from the agency for incomplete reports since 2009 -- more than any other current member of the House of Representatives.

: An estimated one in five pregnant women are obese, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an epidemic according to some doctors who have begun to buck conventional ideas about "eating for two." They now recommend healthy diets, little or no weight gain and even bariatric surgery for obese women before they get pregnant.
