More than 600 Elkridge residents and another 70 homes and businesses in Ellicott City are without water Friday due to water main issues, Howard County officials said Friday morning.
Deep Run Elementary School was closed for the day because of work on a water main along Waterloo Road near the elementary school, while in Ellicott City, county workers were busy restoring service at a broken water main in the 8600 block of Ridge Road.
The Elkridge water main work affected areas south on Waterloo, including Perch Way, according to a county email. Officials said residents there could be out of water "for an extended period" of time -- possibly for as long as 12 hours, because of cold weather and the depth of the water main. In the meantime, county officials said they would set up a water distribution center at Deep Run Elementary School.
In Ellicott City, restoration time will likely be shorter: county officials estimated it would take between four and six hours for residents and businesses to get their water back.
