Fire in Columbia apartment complex displaces one resident

One person was transported to a local hospital by Howard County police after a fire in a Columbia apartment complex shortly before 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Howard County fire officials said.

The fire was quickly extinguished, according to officials. It was contained to a second-floor apartment in a three-story building in the 10500 block of Cross Fox Lane in Columbia, officials said.

The person is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, officials said. No other injuries were reported.

It is not clear whether the apartment had working smoke detectors, according to officials, but other occupants of the building manually activated the fire alarm system.
