Will the law affect coverage for retirees?

Retirees on Medicare are considered covered under health reform. The marketplace exchanges won't affect or change Medicare choices or benefits. Under health reform, some Medicare benefits, such as preventive care, drug coverage and cancer screenings, have been expanded. Some retirees may see changes in their employer-provided health benefits, as recent steps by some large employers indicate. Time Warner plans to move retirees from company plans to private exchanges. IBM said it plans to move some 110,000 retirees from company plans to a large, private Medicare exchange. IBM said it would make contributions to employees' health-retirement accounts, which they can use to buy plans on the exchange. And DuPont began making the same exchange, Extend Health, founded in 2004, available in January to about 80,000 retirees.
