New members named to UMMS board

Gov. Larry Hogan has appointed six new members to the University of Maryland Medical System Board of Directors that span the business, philanthropic and medical communities.

The new appointees who will help set the direction for the non-profit health system, which includes 12 hospitals, will serve five-year terms.

They include: August "Augie" Chiasera, president of the Greater Baltimore / Chesapeake region for M&T Bank; Kenneth Moreland, treasurer and chief financial officer at T. Rowe Price; Dr. Roger Schneider, a vascular surgeon and founder and managing partner of Vascular Surgery Associates; R. Kent Schwab, an insurance company owner and chairman of the board at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Anne Arundel County; Leonard Stoler, a longtime philanthropist and businessman in the automotive industry who donated $5 million to the University of Maryland Medical Center; and Alexander Williams, Jr., an attorney and retired federal judge who sat on the United States District Court for the District of Maryland from 1994 to 2014.

The new chancellor of the University System of Maryland, Dr. Robert L. Caret, serves as an ex-officio member of the board.
