The state health department Wednesday announced three new goals to help improve the health of Marylanders, including increasing the percentage of adults with a primary care provider and reducing emergency room visits by the uninsured and those with dental problems.
The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene laid out the new measures as part of a wider effort to improve citizen health by 2017.
The updates reflect the changing health care environment in Maryland, including how more people now have health insurance under Obamacare. The state is also moving toward a health system that focuses more on rewarding hospitals for keeping people healthy than on volume of patients.
