MedStar Union Memorial partners with Cleveland Clinic to improve heart care

MedStar Health said Tuesday it plans to build on its relationship with the nationally renowned Cleveland Clinic to share research and clinical practices by including Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore in an alliance that already includes other MedStar hospitals such as Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.

The new partnership with the Ohio-based health system seeks to bolster the Heart & Vascular Institute at the 160-year-old Union Memorial Hospital, officials said, as well as attract new patients to the institutions.

The leaders of the institutions said cardiovascular disease is complex and the hospitals will be able to develop and share the latest techniques and technologies. Working together will accelerate improvements in heart care, they said.

Union Memorial specifically expects to serve heart patients throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
