Ebola patient in critical condition at NIH in Bethesda

An American health worker who contracted the Ebola virus in Sierra Leone is in critical condition at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center in Bethesda, officials said Monday.

The person had arrived at the hospital Friday in serious condition. NIH officials are not releasing additional details about the patient.

They also said they have no pending admissions of others suspected or confirmed to have Ebola.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Saturday at least 10 health workers from a Boston nonprofit were being evacuated from Sierra Leone for potential Ebola exposure. Officials said they would be monitored near NIH in Bethesda, Emory University Hospital in Atlanta and the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

The patient is the second with Ebola to be treated at NIH. Texas nurse Nina Pham was treated there and released in October.
