Ravens baby gets $3,000 even though team lost

Baby Segal gets $3,000 savings bond from Sinai Hospital of Baltimore

Some Ravens fans probably wanted to cry like babies when their team lost Sunday's playoff game against the New England Patriots.

But one Baltimore baby had reason to smile after the game, even though she's too young to realize it yet.

Shaina and Gershom Segal gave birth to a little girl at the Herman & Walter Samuelson Children's Hospital at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore the same night as the game. She'll get a $3,000 savings bond as part of a contest by the hospital to reward the first baby born after the start of the game. It was a way to celebrate the Ravens' success.

Segal tipped the scale at 8 pounds, 15 ounces, and measured 21.3 inches in length. She was born at 10:41 p.m.

"I certainly wasn't anticipating winning an award while my wife was in labor yesterday," Gershom Segal told the hospital. "However, now that our daughter is here, it's a wonderful surprise."

The Segals delivered all five of their children at Sinai.

Sinai Hospital is a part of LifeBridge Health.
