Opioid-exposed infants

The number of infants born with a syndrome that occurs in newborns exposed before they were born to addictive opiate drugs has grown steadily in Maryland over the past decade. Known as neonatal abstinence syndrome, it is essentially withdrawal and can include symptoms such as excessive crying, irritability, tremors and problems with sleep and weight gain.
