The Johns Hopkins Children's Center was named the fourth best hospital for pediatric neurology and neurosurgery, according to new hospital rankings by U.S. News & World Report.
The Baltimore hospital tied with Children's National Medical Center of Washington, D.C., for the spot.
The 9th annual rankings are meant to be a guide to hospitals who treat children with rare or life-threatening diseases, the publication said. Hospitals were evaluated in 10 specialties, including cancer, cardiology, gastroentorology, pulmunology and orthopedics.
Eighty-three hospitals were ranked among the top 50 in at least one specialty, and of those, 12 had high scores in three or more specialties and were named to a special honor roll.
Hopkins was not named to the honor roll.
Boston Children's Hospital was ranked the No. 1 hospital.
The rankings were based on surveys sent to hospitals and doctors. Most of the medical institutions surveyed are members of the Children's Hospital Association and are freestanding or large pediatric departments that operate like a hospital within a hospital, according to U.S. News.
