Frosh encourages consumer diligence after CareFirst data breach

In wake of a data breach at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield,  Attorney General Brian E. Frosh is encouraging consumers to be diligent in protecting their private information.

Maryland's largest insurer has created a web site, www.CareFirstAnswers.com, where consumers and brokers can go for more information. They can also call 888-451-6562.

CareFirst has said there is no evidence any personal information accessed in the cyberattack that occured June of last year was misused. The company is offering two years of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services as a precaution.

Consumers who believed they were victims in other data breaches can call the attorney general's office at 410-576-6491.
