An official opening to a new fishway installed at the High Pond Dam on the Mattabesset River in East Berlin, took place on the property of StanChem LLC. Built by the Nature Conservancy's Connecticut Program in partnership with Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, the fishway will allow the D.E.E.P. to conduct research including the monitoring the spawning season and analyzing the types of fish which pass through it. the river is a tributary of the Connecticut River, and is damed at this location to provide a fire pond for the buildings on the owners property.
