Judit I. Czaja (Hammer), 77, passed away in Myrtle Beach, SC on October 7th, 2019 surrounded by her husband and three children. Born in Pecs, Hungary on May 23, 1942, Judit emigrated to the US in 1956 at the age of 14 with her mother, in a daring escape, amidst the turmoil of the Hungarian Revolution. Here, she met her future husband, Laszlo Hammer, also of Hungary, in a class learning to speak English. They raised three children starting in a country home in Enfield, CT, subsequently moving to Bristol, CT for many years. Judy enjoyed a long and fulfilling career at American Airlines, where she developed and enjoyed many close friendships. American Airlines recognized Judy on many occasions for her diligence and outstanding customer service. She retired from AA in 1995. Years after retiring, she met and married Dr. Ronald Czaja of Bloomfield, CT. Judy and Ron traveled to Hungary and other European destinations. She loved to travel and did so extensively throughout her life visiting Australia, the Caribbean, Aruba, Hawaii and Mexico. A favorite spot for Judy was Cocoa Beach, FL, where she and Ron also lived for many years, dividing their time between there and Myrtle Beach. She loved to cook and dream up beautiful dinners, was a connoisseur of fine wines, and also, loved to shop. She decorated her spaces beautifully, reflecting her artistic flair. She loved animals of all kinds, especially birds, had two Lovebirds of her own, and enjoyed them in nature as well. She lived with a passion for life, loved to have a good laugh, and enjoyed entertaining lively discussions on many subjects. After retiring, she took an interest in golf and became an avid and accomplished golfer. She loved spending time on and off the course with her golfing buddies and her husband. She enjoyed and loved her children and grandchildren very much; they were her greatest source of pride. Besides her husband Ron and his seven children, Judy leaves behind two daughters, Kathy Pianka of Stonington, Ct, Suzanna Canova of Mahwah NJ, her son, Robert Hammer of Bristol, Ct, three granddaughters, five grandsons, and son-in-laws, who adored her, as well as her first great-granddaughter. Celebration of Life services will be held at St. Joseph's Church, 1747 Poquonock Avenue, Windsor, Ct on Dec 7th, 2019, 10:00 a.m. There will a reception immediately following the service in the church.
