Barbara Brunjes Creaser, 79, of Torrington, CT, passed away peacefully on May 27th, 2021, in the company of loving family and friends, at Transitions Life Care in Raleigh, NC. Barbara was born in the Bronx, NY, on May 31, 1941 to Kenneth H. Brunjes and Jean Shaw Brunjes, where she attended Walton High School, then continued her education at Capital University in Columbus Ohio, and the University of Vermont in Burlington. Barbara earned her Master of Education degree from Memorial University in Newfoundland, Canada, for her expertise in teaching remedial reading. Barbara Creaser was devoted to sharing the gift of literacy, served as the Language Arts Consultant for Barkhamsted School in CT from 1976 to 2001, and continued her generous efforts as an ESL teacher through her retirement. Her lovely nature and sincere appreciation of people, language and culture, and her understanding of the valuable connections that reading makes possible, were her gift to all who knew her. Barbara was a survivor of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma since 2012, but succumbed to malignant lung cancer four days prior to her 80th birthday. She will be missed by her son John H. Creaser and her grandchildren Ethan Benjamin Creaser and Lauren Suzanne Creaser and of Cary, NC , and by her daughter Mary Elizabeth Creaser of New Hartford, CT. she also leave two nephews, Todd Brunjes of McClean, VA; Christopher Brunjes and his wife Kira of Vienna, VA and a niece, Dana Frederickson and husband Allan, of Denver, CO. Barbara was predeceased by her brother Kenneth Brunjes, her children's father Alan O Creaser, and her daughter in law Susan Cass Creaser. A memorial service will be held at the Hillside Cemetery in Torrington on Saturday, June 26th at 11 am. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the American Lung Association, American Cancer Society or the Prime Time House of Torrington, CT.
