Hartford Courant

Playwright Christopher Durang and director Bobby Lopez will be among those participating in an all-Yale concert presentation of Cole Porter's "Kiss me Kate," celebrating Porter's centennial of his graduation from Yale University in New Haven in 2013.

Two performances at 2 and 8 p.m. will be Saturday, Jan. 19, at University Theatre, 222 York St. in New Haven. The concerts will kick off a year-long celebration of Cole Porter and Yale.

The shows will feature a newly restored critical edition of the score with the original orchestrations which haven't been heard since the original 1948 Tony Award-winning Broadway production.

David Charles Abell will conduct the 40-piece orchestra. The show will be presented in the form of a radio show, complete with sound-effect artists, being performed for a studio audience. Amber Edwards produces the event.

The cast made up of current students and alums also includes Sari Gruber ('93) and Ethan Freeman ('81).

Lopez ("The Book of Mormon") and Durang ("Beyond Therapy") will play gangsters who sing "Bush Up your Shakespeare.")
