The junior pitcher led the No. 5 Huskies (17-2) to a second straight Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference Chesapeake Division title with a stellar performance in Wednesday’s 6-3 clinching win against Bel Air.

Koehn, in his second varsity season, allowed one earned run in 62/3 innings, finishing with six strikeouts while limiting the Bobcats to four hits. At the plate, he was 1-for-1 with a double, two runs, a sacrifice bunt and was hit by a pitch.

Wednesday’s win was the highlight of a 3-0 week for the Huskies, who also beat Rising Sun (9-3 on May 1) and Havre de Grace (5-3 on Thursday). Koehn finished the week 3-for-7 with three RBIs and three runs scored.

In seven starts and 37-plus innings, he is 4-1 with a 0.75 ERA and 41 strikeouts with seven walks. At the plate, he’s batting .326 with 18 runs and 13 RBIs.

Girl Athlete of the Week (May 2): Erin Collins, Hereford, softball

The senior pitcher allowed just one earned run last week and hit .600 in three victories, including one over then-No. 1 Eastern Tech, the six-time defending Baltimore County champion. Collins allowed just one infield hit and struck out eight batters in a 3-0 win over the Mavericks, whom the No. 6 Bulls (11-2) had not beaten in more than seven years. She also went 2-for-2 at the plate and drew a walk. For the week, she pitched 17 innings with a 0.41 ERA and 28 strikeouts. She added two home runs, two doubles and eight RBIs. In an 11-0 win over Loch Raven, she struck out eight and allowed two hits in five innings while going 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBIs at the plate. In another five-inning win, 12-2 over Perry Hall, she struck out 12 and allowed two hits and one earned run. She also went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. An All-Metro first-team selection last season, Collins is 11-1 with wins over the current Nos. 1, No. 2 and No. 7 teams. She has a 1.07 ERA with 95 strikeouts. Her batting average is .647. Also a volleyball player for the Bulls, she plays softball for the Newtown Rock Gold club in Pennsylvania. Collins, who has a 5.2 weighted GPA, has signed to play softball at Rutgers.

The Lakers standout became the third freshman to claim the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association individual title at the league’s two-day stroke play championship that ended April 26 at Woodholme Country Club in Pikesville.

Halleron finished 6-under-par in the 36-hole tournament, firing an opening day 3-under 69 at Eagle’s Nest Country Club in Phoenix on April 24 to take a two-shot lead into the final day. On April 26, he closed with a 3-under 70 for a two-day total of 139 to claim a four-shot win over runner-ups Will Koras (Loyola Blakefield) and Lou Baker (St. Paul’s).

Archbishop Spalding’s Chris Navarro was the last freshman to win the title in 2012.

Halleron took charge on the opening day’s back nine with four birdies and then stayed consistent in the second with a 35 on both the front and back nines for the victory.

He became the first Lakers golfer to win the title since Patrick Hohman won in 2008.

The junior attacker contributed 14 goals and two assists last week as the No. 3 Blazers won three games, including an 11-8 road victory at previously undefeated St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes in Alexandria, Va., on Friday. The Saints were ranked No. 2 nationally behind McDonogh in USA Today’s Super 25 while the Blazers were No. 8. Mardiney scored two goals and had an assist as Notre Dame Prep jumped out to a 6-2 lead. Despite being face guarded, she was able to get possession and control the tempo during the second half while the Blazers rallied from a 7-6 halftime deficit. Earlier in the week, Mardiney scored eight goals in a 15-6 win over No. 10 Bryn Mawr. She also contributed four goals and an assist in a 13-10 win over No. 7 Archbishop Spalding, which is also nationally ranked at No. 14 in the Super 25. A second-team All-Metro selection last season and a starter since her freshman year, Mardiney is a veteran of the M&D Lacrosse Club. She has committed to play college lacrosse for Florida.

With one big smack Wednesday and then a pitching gem Friday, the junior helped the No. 10 Owls capture two big wins in Carroll County play last week.

On Wednesday, Scanlon’s only hit of the day was a grand slam that helped the Owls claim a 7-1 win over South Carroll. On Friday, he enjoyed a dominant performance on the mound with a complete-game 4-1 win over Manchester Valley. Scanlon allowed five hits — all singles — and finished with four strikeouts without allowing an earned run. He also went 1-for-3 at the plate.

For the season, he’s 5-0 with a 0.75 ERA and has 17 strikeouts in 28 innings. He’s batting .278 with 13 RBIs. Scanlon made varsity last year as a sophomore, but made one start on the mound before a season-ending injury.
