2012 entry: Yes Oui Cancan

Recovering from the near-disaster that was Bob, Put a Lid On It went to Europe for inspiration. They settled on an entry that featured a nine-foot-tall re-creation of the Eiffel Tower and six papier-mache dancers representing six of France's most lauded citizens: Marie Antoinette, Napoleon, the Venus de Milo, famous mime Marcel Marceau, expatriate American singer Josephine Baker and ... socialite Paris Hilton. "For that, we won the Art Award," Feasley says with noticeable pride. "There are some bona-fide awards, and the Art Award is one of them. If you win the Art Award, then your vehicle gets to stay in the museum for the next year."

After the high accomplishment that was Yes Oui Cancan, perhaps it was inevitable that Put a Lid On It would have to come crashing back to Earth. They did so with this Rube Goldberg contraption, an elaborate mouse trap (actually, they were meant to be rats) that never actually caught anything, except bewildering stares. "Last year, it took us a long time before we finalized an idea. And so, visually, it was kind of hard to understand what the sculpture was about," Feasley says. "But it was interesting to watch and certainly interesting to ride." And it was, in the end, a prize-winner. The team again won the Grand Mediocre East Coast Championship. "There's no false modesty here," Feasley swears. "It was mediocre."
