Kamala Harris has been favored to be the Democratic vice presidential nominee since we started tracking these odds on April 1.
Now she has the best odds yet.
At -175, she has a 63.7% implied probability to be Joe Biden’s running mate according to the betting market — a notable increase since July 15, when she was even money (+100) with only a 50% implied probability to be the pick.
The bump in Harris’ odds comes days before the first week of August, when Biden said he would announce his decision.
If elected, Biden would be 78 years old on Inauguration Day — notably older than Donald Trump, who at 70 became the oldest person to assume the presidency yet. Biden is thus unlikely to seek a second term, placing special emphasis on his choice of running mate as they’re likely to be the favorite for the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination.
Harris was Biden’s most vocal opponent during the Democratic primary, challenging him on his record against busing policies to desegregate schools in the 1970s during a televised debate, but endorsed Biden after dropping out.
The senator and former California attorney general has been at the center of conversation ever since Biden vowed to select a woman to join the ticket, but while she is the betting favorite, some reports indicate there is concern from Biden’s campaign about how Harris ran hers.
Below is a recap of how Harris’ odds have changed since we started tracking them on April 1.
