Annapolis Restaurant Week guide: Now serving breakfast and lunch, too

To better support Annapolis' eclectic restaurants, the city's upcoming Restaurant Week will feature special deals on breakfast and lunch for the first time.

The Annapolis Partnership will host the annual Annapolis Restaurant Week from Monday through Feb. 28. In previous year, the week just featured special deals on dinner menus. With this addition, organizers hope to highlight the diversity of the 41 restaurants participating.

All of the restaurants are serving meals at the same price, said Lisa Thompson, the executive director of Annapolis Partnership. A two-course breakfast will cost $12.95, a two-course lunch will cost $15.95 and a three-course dinner will cost $34.95.

"It's a time where people naturally want to nest and leave work and go right home," Thompson said. "But since it's off season it gives locals an opportunity to go and support the local restaurants."

Thompson added that with the additions of breakfast and lunch, the organization is hoping to cater to a wide demographic. This can range from a businessman in Eastport taking a client out to lunch in downtown Annapolis to a couple who's lived in the areas for years but rarely eats at any of the downtown restaurants.

When planning the week, Annapolis Partnership worked with the restaurants to create the fixed prices. The goal, Thompson said, was to make the prices affordable, while still allowing the chefs to create an innovative menu.

For some restaurants downtown, like Harry Browne's Restaurant, next week will allow chefs to experiment with new menus and courses. Specifically, for its dinner menu, the restaurant will offer an oven roasted chicken breast with barley risotto; a pappardelle pasta topped with artichoke; and a cornmeal crusted rainbow trout with beluga lentils.

Jaleesa Johnson, the manager of Blackwall Hitch, said the restaurant will offer some of the menu staples — specifically its shrimp'n'grits — and focus on local flavors.

"It's nice to showcase what our menu is, while trying to get new people at our restaurant," she said.

The event allows restaurants to meet new faces and better interact with the community, said Brad Flower, manager of O'Brien's Oyster Bar & Restaurant. He recommended customers try the restaurant's New York Strip steak and scallops.

"Restaurant Weeks gets our name out there," Flower said. "We like participating in downtown Annapolis events because it makes us feel closer to the community."

Restaurant Week also is a perfect opportunity to catch some weekday musical acts.

49 West offers live music every night of the week and this coming week includes jazz, blues, roots and folk performances— The Bird & the Wolf (Dan Haas, Thom Beall, Max Bent & Larry Melton), Dean Rosenthal, United Jazz Ensemble, and more).

Ram's Head Tavern also has a great weekly lineup starting at 10 p.m., Timmie Metz, Swampcandy, Loose Ties and Pressing Strings. At Blackwall Hitch, the music starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday nights, perfect for a great meal and am early night. They have Michael McHenry on Wednesday and Fran Scuderi on Thursday.

Metropolitan is another earlier side place, with TWEED, Sol Frequency and Changre starting at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jimi Haha's Open Mic night at 9:30 on Wednesday, and the Soul Session Series artist Showcase, featuring Daniel Bennett, Davonne D'Niel, Kaygen Miles, Snikk Davis, and Ashley Graham, starting at 8 on Thursday.

Anyone interested in Restaurant Week is advised to make reservations as early as possible, as reservation lists tend to fill up quickly, Thompson said.
