As luck would have it, Joyce Smith of Arbutus, who worked at Hutzler's in Westview until it closed in the late 1980s, sent in a recipe for the potato chip cookies. When she saw Sober's request, it rang a bell with Smith, so she went digging and found the recipe in one of her Hutzler's monthly employee newsletters. While she hasn't made the cookies in quite a while, she remembers that they were very easy to make and that they melted in your mouth. While I don't recall ever having a potato chip cookie at Hutzler's, I still have fond memories of those decadent fudge cupcakes sold at the little bakery tucked behind the candy counter in the Towson store. I baked up a batch of these salty, sweet and delicious cookies — using Utz potato chips, of course — and I'm missing Hutzler's all over again.
