Guli Fager of Baltimore has never been a big fan of traditional chocolate chip cookies, and she thinks that's because her grandmother's version was so much more interesting. "The clove and cinnamon really bring out the flavor of good dark chocolate chips," Fager says, "and adding oatmeal and nuts makes them practically a healthy snack." Fager's grandmother died in 2009 and her recipe card had water damage, so Fager recreated it as best she could. "The spiciness makes them go well with other holiday foods and beverages," she says.
