Dooby's owners plan to open a pizzeria in the Fitzgerald building

The owners of Dooby's and Sugarvale are planning to open a pizza shop in the Fitzgerald apartment building, where Two Boots Pizza previously operated.

The owners of Dooby’s and Sugarvale in Mount Vernon are planning to open a new restaurant in Midtown-Belvedere.

Husband-and-wife team Phil and Jennifer Han are working to open a pizzeria in the Fitzgerald building at 1203 W. Mount Royal Ave., in the storefront where Two Boots Pizza previously operated.

“We just want to serve pizza, some burgers have a bar program for kind of that community vibe of having craft beer, some cocktails and some wine,” Phil Han told Baltimore liquor board commissioners during a Thursday hearing on the restaurant’s liquor license.

Han said the pizza shop’s name is still to be determined, but a sample menu filed with the Board of Liquor License Commissioners lists Noona’s Pizza as a tentative name.

The sample menu lists pies that would come in two sizes ranging from $9-$26. Options include the smorgasbord (prosciutto, chorizo, pepperoni and jalapeno), luau (pork belly, pineapple and roasted chili), goat cheese & pancetta (caramelized onions, walnuts and sun-dried tomato) and roasted eggplant (roasted red peppers, lemon and arugula).

The pizzas will be made with a ciabatta-sourdough hybrid crust, Han said during the hearing.

“I used to live in the building and always thought that we could maybe do better pizza than what Two Boots had,” Han said. “Pizza at its core is probably a top-three food for everyone, so we’re really pumped to at least just try ours.”

The restaurant would seat 86 guests inside, with additional seating at the bar and 24 outdoor seats, according to a floor plan filed with the board.

The liquor license, which also permits beer and wine delivery, live entertainment and catering, was unanimously approved by the three-member board.

It’s unclear when the pizzeria will open; the Hans did not immediately respond to requests for further comment.
