Center Cut Doughnuts will serve its last doughnut this weekend.

The Hampden bake shop at 3528 Chestnut Ave. will close after a going away party Sunday, owner Josh Kowitz said. The shop will be open regular hours Friday through Sunday. Full Circle, another doughnut shop, will open in its place, Kowitz said.

Center Cut Doughnuts got its start at the Hampden Farmers’ Market, where Kowitz sold doughnuts for two years before opening his permanent shop in January, in the former B. Doughnut space.

Best doughnuts: Center Cut Doughnuts

Josh Kowitz, who introduced his creative pastries at the Hampden Farmers’ Market, now has a roof over his head with his first brick-and-mortar location.

“I had a good run,” Kowitz said. “[Going from] two tables and tent to a brick-and-mortar is really nothing to shake a stick at.”

Kowitz said he plans to pursue other opportunities as he leaves the doughnut shop behind, but declined to give more details. He does not plan to sell his doughnuts at farmers’ markets again, he said.
