Baltimore Diner: A chance to tailgate inside M&T Bank Stadium

It's tailgate season, when fans gather on parking lots outside M&T Bank Stadium. But on Oct. 18, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake, along with presenting sponsors Under Armour and the Baltimore Ravens, are inviting fans to tailgate inside the stadium, and right on the field, at the fifth annual Biggest Little Tailgate Party.

Guests at the event will have on-field access and participate in activities like the Under Armour Combine Experience, End Zone Challenge, an exclusive tour of the Ravens' locker room and mingling with cheerleaders.

The roster of celebrity tailgate hosts includes Molly Shattuck, Ed Norris, Pete Gilbert, Jenn and Nestor Aparicio and Maryland's first lady, Katie O'Malley. Participating restaurants include Alexander's Tavern, Banksy's Cafe, Blue Hill Tavern, Ciao Bella, Kali's Restaurant Group, La Scala, Lebanese Taverna, Little Havana, Mama's on the Half Shell, Manor Tavern, Matsuri, and Nacho Mamas.

Good food is essential to any tailgate, but, "It's really about the kids getting access," said Under Armour Chief Financial Officer Brad Dickerson. "Under Armour has a strong connection with Big Brothers Big Sisters because we believe in the importance of youth in the Baltimore area."

A new ranking The Zagat's "2013 Washington, DC/Baltimore Restaurants Survey," was released on Tuesday. Among the guide's new listings, editors have designated 10 "key newcomers," including, Hersh's Pizza, Of Love and Regret, Pabu, Thames Street Oyster House and Wit & Wisdom.

Although Zagat publishes annual updated guides, established restaurants are only re-rated, and re-ranked, every other year. Charleston remains on top of the Food and Decor ranking, with 29 out of a possible 30 points in both categories, and remains tied with the Prime Rib for best service, along with newcomer Tersiguel's. Top ranked restaurants by cuisine include Charleston (new American), Miss Shirley's (traditional American), Black Olive (seafood), Faidley's (crab houses) and Samos (Greek).

There's a big shake-up, however, on the Most Popular list, which Zagat compiles by asking surveyors to rank their five favorite restaurants they've voted on. Woodberry Kitchen still has the top spot, but the Helmand, Black Olive, Petit Louis and Pazo have dropped out of the top 10. (So, has Volt, which is now listed in the Washington section.) In their places are the Double T Diner (no. 2) G&M Seafood (no. 5), Miss Shirley's (no. 6), Tio Pepe (no. 8) and Sabatino's (no. 10). If there's a shocker, it's the new no. 7 — the Four Seasons Grille in Gambrills. The other Most Popular restaurants are the Prime Rib (no. 3) and Charleston (no. 4)

In addition to the print guide, Zagat's scores and reviews are now available — and for free — via Google products. The Baltimore, Annapolis and Eastern Shore section of the survey was edited by Marty Katz and Martha Thomas.

Stuggy's delivers Operating under the name Willow Presents Stuggy's Delivers, the popular Fells Point hot dog shop Stuggy's now delivers to addresses in Fells Point and Harbor East, daily, from 5 p.m. until 3 a.m.

The service, which started Friday, will not only deliver Stuggy's specialty hot dogs but a selection of house-smoked wings, chorizo burgers and pizza, too. There's a $20 order minimum and a flat $5 delivery fee.

It gets better. Stuggy's can also bring you bottle of Bulleit rye or Kettle One vodka, or bottle of Malbec or a six-pack of National Bohemian beer. It's all legit. You'll need to show ID to the delivery guy, who will snap a photograph of it.

Among the other delivery options are Snickers, Skittles, Frosted Mini-Wheats, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Aleve and Pepto-Bismol Chewable Tablets

For Stuggy's co-owner Ryan Perlberg, the service is a natural reflection of his love for Fells Point. "We look at our neighborhood through our own eyes and we love what we see. We are treating Harbor East and Fells like a campus."

As the service's users make requests, the sundries list will keep growing, according to Perlberg, who said that phase two and three of the service will include items from CVS and Whole Foods Market.

"We are operating this business like an independent record label," Perlberg said. "We encourage people to try food and spirits that they haven't tried before."
