Ryan’s Daughter Irish Pub & Restaurant, a mainstay of Belvedere Square since opening in 2004, will be closing on Jan. 21, the owners announced on Facebook on Thursday afternoon.
“It’s a little bit of everything,” said Andreea Zmarandache, who owns Ryan’s daughter with her husband, Marwan Daas. “The economy’s changing, there’s a lot of places that are closing, a lot of places that are opening, a lot of places that are re-branding.”
Zmarandache said business has been “a little bit slow” lately. She also said the restaurant’s lease will be up at the end of this year. “All the factors kind of added up,” she said.
“Regretfully, after 14 wonderful years, filled with pleasant memories, Ryan’s Daughter will be closing its doors,” the owners wrote in a post that went up around 2 p.m. Thursday. “We are more than grateful for the endless support you have given us over the years.”
Zmarandache said she and her husband may look around for another opportunity, although the next time they’d prefer to own their own real estate. “We’re not sure,” she said. “We’re just waiting to put an end to all this, maybe take a couple weeks off, then start looking for something.”
The post ends with the traditional Irish, “Go raibh míle maith agat!" which translates roughly to a hale and hearty “Thank you very much.”
