Wit and Wisdom launches 'Champagne campaign'

Wit & Wisdom is on a mission to make Champagne, if not an everyday drink, one that people have not just at New Year's Eve parties and rehearsal dinners.

For its "Champagne campaign," the restaurant at the Four Seasons Hotel Baltimore is now offering half off all bottles of Champage from 10 p.m. to midnight every night in its bar and lounge.

"The idea is to make Champagne more accessible and encourage people to drink it more often," said the Wit & Wisdom's lead sommelier Julie Dalton. "It doesn't have to be a special occasion. When people only use it for special occasions it scares them. You can just drink Champagne if you're just thirsty."

Dalton credits the idea to her friend Laura Maniec, a sommelier at Corkbuzz Wine Studio in New York City, who came up with the idea of late-night Champagne hours. "She rings a bell at 10 p.m., and everyone knows it's time for Champagne," Dalton said.

Dalton said that she got Maniec's blessing to take the Champagne campaign in Baltimore. "She told me, 'I want everyone to do this. I want everyone to find Champagne as accessible as I do.'"

Dalton said that doesn't yet have a bell to ring to signal the start of Champagne hours at Wit & Wisdom.

"Ive been looking for a bell," Dalton said. "We are all on a mission to find the perfect bell."
