Virgin Mobile FreeFest 2011: Tickets gone in 60 seconds

You can now go over to Virgin Mobile Live on Facebook and try to grab tickets to this year's festival. Tickets were scheduled to be posted at exactly 10 a.m. (10:30 a.m. update: Readers are reporting free tickets are already gone)

To claim yours, go to Virgin Mobile Live's Facebook page, here, and click on the FreeFest Tickets tab.

There should be an option to claim tickets above Richard Branson's leathery face.

Today is the first time everyone will have access to the free tickets. On Thursday, a portion of the tickets were already given out during "a private free-sale" on Facebook to Virgin Mobile customers and festival ticket holders from the past five years.

(This year's line-up, by the way, is here)

Virgin is giving away "the lion's share of tickets" this year on Facebook because the company wants to exploit the site's broad reach, said Ron Faris, Virgin Mobile USA's Director of Brand Marketing.

Facebook, though, won't be the only way to get tickets to the festival. Like last year, Virgin will also be selling VIP tickets, which the company is calling a FreeFest Premium Ticket package this year.

The ticket includes "admission to the festival, a FreeFest t-shirt and poster, a souvenir cup that comes with discounts on drinks, and early admission to the grounds." Price? $49.50.

These tickets will go on sale at ticketfly.com and at Merriweather Post Pavilion's website just as the free tickets become available on Facebook.

A colleague claimed his free tickets during the Thursday "free-sale" and reported no glitches; report in the comments or on Twitter if you do.

11:43 a.m. update: Tickets disappeared in about a minute, said a FreeFest spokeswoman.
