Venti Tre has closed at The Shops at Canton Crossing, according to Neil Tucker of Chesapeake Real Estate Group, one of the developers of the Boston Street retail center.

Tucker said that the Venti Tre space will reopen soon as a new restaurant from the operators of Coal Fire pizza restaurant. Based in Ellicott City, Coal Fire has five locations in Maryland and one in Virginia.

Developed by Fazoli's, the Lexington, Ky.-based chain of casual Italian-American restaurants, Venti Tre promoted its customizable menu of Italian dishes. It opened at Canton Crossing last March and another location opened soon after in Gaithersburg.

Venti Tre in Canton "did not meet sales expectations," according to restaurant spokesman Brad Ritter, adding that the Gaithersburg location is still in operation. Plans for future restaurants are being re-evaluated, he said.
