Venezuelan chef Federico Tischler, most recently of Canton restaurant Alma Cocina Latina, will bring a dash of his country to the R. House food hall in Remington this fall.
Tischler is opening White Envelope, a modern arepas bar that will put a spin on the traditional Latin American comfort food, which is composed of a Venezuelan cornbread split open and stuffed with a variety of ingredients.
Tischler's renditions will go beyond the basic ham and cheese stuffings, featuring sweet, savory and spicy ingredients like caramel braised beef, blood sausage and citrus-white chocolate mayonnaise.
"We want to use White Envelope to show my culture and my country's culture and all of our love of our food," Tischler said in a recent promotional video.
The menu will include flavorful concoctions like the "Paint in Black," which will feature beef cooked in dark caramel sauce with a spicy plantain puree and a crunchy tostones topping; "The Illustrious Pig" with roasted pork leg topped with lime-mayonnaise, fresh tomato and arugula; and "El Rompe Colchon" (in English:"The Mattress Breaker"), with shrimp and squid drenched in a tomato-orange sauce, according to a recent news release. Arepas will cost about $7 each.
White Envelope is the latest addition to the food lineup at R. House, a food emporium set to open this fall in Remington. Other offerings include stands specializing in fried chicken and wings, Korean barbecue, Mediterreanan food, breakfast dishes and vegan/vegetarian eats.
Located at the corner of Remington Avenue and 29th St., the Seawall Development Co. project will also include office space and a fitness studio.
