Van Halen to perform at Verizon Center in DC

Van Halen announced the tour near the end of

, a sort of late Christmas present. But the news was short on details - not how long the tour would last, or where it would stop.

They made the official announcement Thursday night at an intimate performance at New York City's Cafe Wha?

The tour kicks off in mid February and will last through late June; tickets for the Verizon Center show go on sale January 14 (they're in the $29.50 - $149.50 range). Kool & the Gang is opening on some dates, including DC.

Van Halen's hitting the road for the first time in about four years to promote a new album, "A Different Kind of Truth," that's the first with Roth since "1984." It's scheduled for release February 7.
