Trinacria Cafe, at the corner of Centre Street and Park Avenue has reopened following renovations to transform its interior.

The cafe first opened in 2014 as a spin-off of the Italian grocery store Trinacria Foods on Paca Street. Diane "Dee" Fava said the cafe was doing good business, but the owners never took the time to make the space what they wanted it to be.

"We kind of rushed it, just slapped on some paint," she said.

When a sinkhole caused the street outside the cafe to collapse earlier this year, she said that created the perfect time to close the shop and make changes.

"Once that sinkhole happened it was the best thing that ever happened to us," Fava said. "With summer coming and the dog days of summer coming, we thought, 'Why not shut down and do it up right.'"

The shop closed for renovations in late June and reopened Sunday.
