As the Baltimore ad agency Planit settles into its new office, the firm is adding something more to South Baltimore than creative marketing ideas. It's bringing the juice that fuels that creativity: coffee.
Order & Chaos Coffee will soon open at 1410 Key Highway, the building where Planit recently moved into a revamped office. Planit relocated to the former King Syrup warehouse at 1414 Key Highway in May after outgrowing its space downtown at 500 E. Pratt St.
The shop will serve coffee from Locust Point-based Pfefferkorn's Coffee Inc., as well as teas and light fare such as smoothies, grab-and-go sandwiches and yogurt.
"We want it to feel and be kind of an extension of the brand we've created at Planit," said Matt Doud, co-founder of Planit.
The 1,100-square-foot coffee shop, which will be open to the public, is set to open in late August.
Doud said Order & Chaos Coffee will be as much for Planit employees as the surrounding community. The shop will be open seven days a week, but exact hours of business have not been determined yet.
Doud and Planit co-founder Ed Callahan will own the shop separately from their agency.
"We both have this entrepreneurial spirit that's always kind of, 'What's next?'" Doud said. "It was a little bit of necessity is the mother of invention, but also kind of controlling our own fate."
Ryan Herzing will serve as the Order & Chaos Coffee's general manager, and Doud said the shop is looking to hire 10 to 15 employees.
