The week that was: Unreleased Etta James interview, Dru Hill, Midtown BBQ & Brew and more

In case you missed it, here's a round-up of this week's highlights:

•••• We started the week with a photo gallery from the Elvis Fight Club at Creative Alliance from Jan. 14. Classic Baltimore.

•••• Erik wrote about the city's concert venues and their on-the-up sales. What surprised me?Lil Wayne's gross revenue beat out the Watch the Throne tour.

•••• National love was shown to a couple of our favorite bars, Brewer's Art and Max's.

•••• In local music, ex-Ponytail guitarist Dustin Wong announced his new project where he will make a song out of your dream. Also, the new Lower Dens single rocks. Finally, Dru Hill, the Baltimore R&B group, celebrates its 20th anniversary with a big show at Rams Head Live this weekend. I profiled them for Live!.

•••• There was plenty of bar fodder this week. We had a review of the new Midtown Yacht Club BBQ & Brew, along with a photo gallery. Charles Village Pub & Patio in Towson eyes a March re-opening. Fells Point's Dogwatch Tavern has made good use of the old Reefer's spot, according to reviewer Evan Siple. And because there's room for Ravens coverage in every section of this site, we named Looney's in Canton (a place I frequent, as most Cantonites do — say hi!) the Ravens bar of the week.

•••• We couldn't run a music blog without mentioning PIPA and SOPA this week. While national acts and bands from home (most notably Wye Oak) spoke out against the Internet piracy bills, A2IM came out in support of them. Read the full story here.

•••• And on a sad note, Etta James passed away today. Midnight Sun alum Sam Sessa posted an interview with James from 2007 that never ran. You can see James' sense of humor shine through as she remembers having tomatoes tossed at her in Baltimore.
