The organizers of the Taste of Three Cities food-truck festival have announced a major expansion for the fourth annual intra-city culinary competition.
This year's edition will take place on three dates, with stops in Washington, Philadelphia and Baltimore, according to the festival's founder and organizer, Damian Bohager. Bohager produced the first intra-city food festival in June 2012 at the Westport Waterfront, when it was called a Taste of Two Cities.
The second festival was held at Rash Field in the Inner Harbor. Last year's event, held at M&T Bank Stadium, included food trucks from Philadelphia and was renamed a Taste of Three Cities.
"I had been approached by people from all over the country who had heard about the event," Bohager said. "I thought why not take it to the other cities participating in our event."
The Taste of Three Cities will begin April 25 in Washington, in the emerging NoMa neighborhood, just north of Union Station. On May 9, trucks from each city will gather at the Xfinity Live complex in Philadelphia. The final event will be held on June 6 in Baltimore's Patterson Park.
This year's event will also for first time have cash prizes. The truck that earns the most points in juried competitions in each city wins $2,500. The truck with the most cumulative points at the three rallies will win $4,000 bonus prize.
"I don't know of any food-truck rallies that give out prizes like this," Bohager said.
Tickets for the individual food-truck festivals, which go on sale Tuesday. are $15 in advance. Tickets to the Baltimore and Washington events will be available through Missiontix. The Philadelphia tickets will be available through Ticketfly.
